| Odin | (Oden)
Father of all. Master of the Gods and Ruler of
Valhalla. Has only one eye, as he has sacrificed one eye to the well of
wisdom, so that he can see and know all. |
| Hugin and Munin | Two
ravens which perched on Odin's shoulders when they are not out scouting
for him, telling him all they see and hear. |
| Gere and Freke | two wolves who fight alongside Odin
and who aid him when he is hunting. |
| Sleipner | Odin's
eight legged horse, which can ride faster than the wind |
| Thor | (Tor) Eldest son of Odin, and Asgaard's
foremost and strongest warrior. Protector of seafarers and peasants. God
of thunder and storms. Wields the magic hammer Mjolnir (Mjölner), which
only he can wield. |
| Frey | (Frej)
God of nature, crops (harvest) and fertility (Both
in animals and men). Brother of Freya. |
| Freya | (Freja)
Goddess
of beauty, love and fertility (mainly in women). Sister of Frej. |
| Tyr | Onearmed
God of war and patron of warriors. |
| Heimdall | God
of fire and guardian of the rainbow bridge which leads from Asgaard
(world of gods) to Midgaard (world of men). Keeper of the Gjallar horn,
the large horn which he will blow in when Ragnarok begins, to call the
Gods to battle. |
| Ull | God
of hunting, winter and of contest. |
| Frigg | Wife
of Odin, and goddess of wisdom. She is clairvoyant. |
| Idun | Goddess of love and youth. |
| Loki | (Loke)
God of lies, tricks, mischief and theft. Known also as the
"Trickster". |
| The Valkyries | Female
warriors af Asgaard which fly to every place of battle on Midgaard to
take the souls of slain, brave warriors to Valhalla. |
| Hel | Goddess
of death, ruler of Nifelhel. |
| Asgaard | The
world where the Gods live. |
| Midgaard | The
world where men live. |
| Outgaard | The
world where the giants and other evil creatures live. |
| Valhalla | Odin's
fortress which stands in the middle of Asgaard. The hall where
dead heroes are taken by the Valkyries. |
| Nifelhel | The
realm of the dead. All those not selected by the Valkyries end up
here instead of Valhalla. |
| Ragnarok | The
end of the world, where the giants and the Gods will do battle on the
plains outside Valhalla. All the Gods except for a very few will
be slain in the battle. |
